AI continue to grow in my walk with the Lord, I find that I rely on Him daily for His guidance to make even the simplest of life’s decisions. I can also admit that even with His help, I can sometimes feel unsure that I am discerning His voice and making the right choices. It is not ever easy to make big moves when you are not sure what’s ahead of them. Here is a short anecdote attesting to God’s faithfulness when making those big decisions to answer His call.

Five years ago, my husband and I got called into ministry. It was one of the scariest times in my life. Not because we were strangers to ministry, but because this time God was uprooting us from our homes and planting us somewhere new, far from the comforts we had known for most of our lives. I consider myself completely risk-averse, so this didn’t help much either. Before being presented with this opportunity, we had both become quite complacent and were feeling rather stagnant in our respective ministries. I remember feeling uneasy about this and asked God to make His will explicitly clear to us. Well, there’s one thing you should know about God, and that is He loves when we submit to His will because it makes it very easy for Him to manifest those desires. No more than a few months after that prayer we were packing a 10-foot U-Haul truck with all of our belongings and moving to a place we’d never heard of or even seen.

I still wrestled with whether or not this was truly God’s desire for us. The Bible tells us in Genesis 12:1-3 that Abraham was faced with a similar call (obviously of more monumental proportions). God instructed him to leave the land of Ur behind, which included rounding up his family and all their possessions. In return, God promised to bless him for his obedience. So like Abraham, we packed up our lives and ended up here in New Jersey at Transformation Life Church.

It takes guts to walk in faith and trust that God has already ordered your steps when you can’t see the road ahead of you. This is why it is important to seek God first and entrust Him with even the smallest decisions. Whether it is deciding to go back to school or applying for a new position at work, God is concerned about all things concerning you. And if you seek and obey Him, He promises to reward you: “And without faith, it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6).

While there may be hiccups along the road and situations that may not always go according to our plans, we can rest assured that He knows what’s next for our lives and that His plans are to prosper us (Jeremiah 29:11). So, if you’re wrestling with “what’s next,” remember to include Him in the decision-making process and He will certainly direct your path (Proverbs 3:6).
