This is truly a rollercoaster year. We are facing many challenges, struggles, losses, and growing pains, directly and indirectly. Whether you have your finances in order at the moment, or your finances are all over the place and you don’t know where to start, there is hope ahead!

“You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.” Psalm 119:114

Our hope is not in the economy or the political uncertainties that surround us. We serve an omnipotent God who establishes all things for His glory. You might find yourself today feeling anxious about tomorrow, but the Word of God tells us to cast those worries onto Him. As I write this, I am also financially affected by the economic impact of this pandemic. Today, I’m taking a furlough day out of five days that all New York City managers are required to take based on a mayoral order to close the budget gap that the city is currently facing. Amid my worries, I too need to pause, take a deep breath, and listen to Him because He is faithful.

He is faithful in every season! I’m not sure where you are with your finances, but whatever the situation is, trust in Jesus to provide:

  • If you’re unemployed… Trust in Him
  • If you’re living paycheck to paycheck… Trust in Him
  • If your business is struggling at this moment… Trust in Him
  • If you’re unable to make ends meet… Trust in Him
  • If your financial plans are jacked up in 2020… Trust in Him

Jesus speaks to us directly in Matthew 6 when He tells us not to be anxious, not to worry, because you are super important to your creator God who is your heavenly father and has your wellbeing in mind:

Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:25-34

What I take from this Scripture is that He’s in control, so no matter what the challenges you face with finances, don’t stress. Seek Him through prayer and reading the Bible to edify your spiritual life, apply the principles of stewardship He lays out in the word, and do good through your walk with Christ. Keeping His promise, all things will be added to you and there will be no lack.

Jesus is calling you out of the comfort of your boat. Through the storm, if you stay focused and trust Him, you will walk on water. It may look like there is no way, but with Christ there is always a way.

“Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer. Romans 12:12
